Dunedin Showcase Theater, Dunedin's lively community theater, has selected a classic slate of plays for its 2008-09 season at the Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin.
The season will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with the premier of "Lovers and Other Strangers." Following is an overview of the coming season:
- Sept. 24 to 28 – Lovers and Other Strangers, by Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna. A light-hearted romantic comedy, the play revolves around the wedding of Mike and Susan while offering a study of several couples in various stages of relationships.
- Nov. 7 to 16 – Italian American Reconciliation, by John Patrick Shanley. Huey enlists the aid of his friend Aldo to help him regain his manhood by wooing and winning his ex-wife Janice so he can put the broken marriage behind him. Aldo tries to convince Huey he’s better off courting a new love interest, Teresa, who eventually learns what Huey is up to.
- March 11 to 15 – Bye Bye Birdie, book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams and music by Charles Strouse. The musical is a satire on 1950s American society about an Elvis-like pop star who is drafted into the U.S. Army.
- May 6 to 10 – The Wisdom of Eve, by Mary Orr. Orr’s short story spawned the film All About Eve, featuring one of Bette Davis’ most famous screen performances. The play offers a revealing look at life in New York's theater world.
