History of Port Richey:
By the time Aaron M. Richey arrived in the area in 1883, at least two separate Indian communities had flourished here. Richey settled at the mouth of the Pithlachascotee River, building a dock for his schooner on a piece of land (bought from the pioneer Clark family) which he promptly named Port Richey.
Richey served as the area’s first postmaster and ran a small general store. Long a destination for fishermen and trappers, Port Richey soon attracted enterprising northerners with the lure of abundant fish and game.
Port Richey was incorporated in 1925. Charles H. Hoffman served as its first mayor.

What Makes Port Richey Special:
Commercial fishing entrepreneurs and eager anglers alike find the coastal waters of Port Richey particularly pleasing with a wealth of mullet, grouper, kings, snapper and tarpon. The industry has remained integral to the city and, while neighboring municipalities such as New Port Richey have seen explosive growth in the last few decades, Port Richey has preserved much of the picturesque charm that identifies it with Old Florida.
