The city’s downtown was surveyed in 1911 and developed through the efforts of the Port Richey Land Company, which owned much of the area. Incorporated in 1924, the city attracted a number of notable celebrities, including Hollywood stars such as Thomas Meighan, Gloria Swanson and Ed Wynn, as well as author Pearl Buck. Paramount Pictures considered building a motion picture studio in the area, but the Great Depression forced the company to scrap the plans.

The city is named after its founder Captain Aaron M. Richey

Things To Do In :

The city is home to many beautiful, well-kept parks and green spaces, including Cotee River Park, Sims Park and Grand Boulevard Park. In addition to these inviting amenities, the city also maintains New Port Richey Aquatics, with a lap pool, children’s pool and dive and slide pool. Hours vary with the seasons.

The downtown area is a popular destination boasting a variety of retail shops, restaurants and businesses including antique malls, gift stores and day spas. Here, Richey Suncoast Theatre performers stage productions in the historic Meighan Theatre, built in 1925.

Dining In New Port Richey:

What Makes New Port Richey Special :

New Port Richey combines the picturesque beauty of Florida nature with history, arts and culture, community events and contemporary shopping opportunities and upscale dining in a downtown district that retains its small-town charm.

Located in west central Pasco County, New Port Richey enjoys both a Gulf of Mexico coastline and the scenic Pithlachascotee River. This blackwater stream originates in the Crews Lake area of the county and runs right through the city before emptying into the gulf at Miller’s Bayou.

Walking and boat tours are offered by Greater New Port Richey Main Street Inc. to help familiarize visitors and residents with the city’s character and heritage. That same organization sponsored the creation of a series of murals depicting the city’s history and also hosts several annual events including the Cotee River Seafood Festival.
