October’s Tampa concert lineup will feature a wide variety of musical acts at area venues large and small.
Perhaps the biggest music news for the month is the lineup for the MarineMax Clearwater Jazz Holiday set for Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 16 through 19, at Coachman Park, on the waterfront in downtown Clearwater, accessible from Drew Street or via Cleveland Street (State Road 60).
The annual event, now celebrating its 29th year, actually began in the back of a flatbed truck as a 10-day traveling series of jazz concerts. As evidence of its distinction as one of the great musical festivals in the world, the event boasts an impressive history of featured artists including a number of legendary performers. Talents such as Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Mann, Dave Brubeck, Tito Puente, Stephan Grappelli, Stan Getz, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones have appeared on stage at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday in the past.
Best of all, the four-day Clearwater Jazz Holiday is free to the public. Planned and administered by the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation and the city of Clearwater, proceeds from the event benefit jazz education through scholarship opportunities and educational activities.
