Date Ideas Part 5

By , About.com Guide

Looking for something to do for date night but not quite sure what to do? You've come to the right place. This is part five of a series of articles filled with date ideas for couples in the Tampa Bay area.

1. Drag Queen Bingo

Who says you can’t enjoy dinner and a show on a Monday night? Each Monday night Hamburger Mary’s in Ybor City hosts a drag queen bingo game to benefit a local non-profit. Melanie Minyon is the host and her humor is worth the $10 fee alone, but knowing that the money is going to help local charities is definitely a bonus. The fee gets you 10 games and the winners get fun prizes. During the game you can order food and drinks. Be sure to ask for the specials of the night. I strongly recommend the Mac and Cheese wedges for your appetizer, the Barbra-Q-Bacon cheeseburger for your entrée and the Mary Tyler S’mores for dessert. The best part of the Mary Tyler S’mores is the restaurant brings you your own personal campfire to roast your marshmallows on!

2. Chuck E. Cheese

Sure, Chuck E. Cheese is known as the place “where a kid can be a kid,” but who says it can’t also be a place where an adult can feel like a kid again? Arcade games, pizza and prizes for efforts in the arcade games sound like the makings of a really fun date to me. You could even make a competitive game out of it. Whoever makes the most tickets while playing gets to choose the next date. Consider going on a weeknight to avoid lots of birthday parties and loud kids if you are worried about it ruining your date night. Before scheduling your date at Chuck E. Cheese sign up for the company’s coupon and promotion email because sometimes there are deals for discounted pizza, tokens and more.

3. Deep Sea Fishing

Grab your rods, reels and your date and head to the Clearwater Marina to hop aboard one of the many boats Queen Fleet Deep Sea Fishing has to offer. Serving fishermen and women in Clearwater for more than 25 years, Queen Fleet offers half day and full day fishing trips. They 90 foot Super Queen boat holds up to 150 passengers and features a sun deck. The 75 foot Gulf Queen only holds 85, but it offers more fishing time and an air conditioned bunk room for longer trips. A four hour half day fishing trip will run you just under $50 per person and a full day is a little more than $65 a person for eight hours. The typical catch on a half day trip, according to the company, includes Grunts (snapper family), sea bass, Triggerfish, Mangrove snapper, an occasional grouper and/or kingfish and various species of shark (mostly in the warmer months).

Rods and reels are available for rent for an additional $5. Bait, tackle and fishing license are included in your ticket price. Food is also available for an additional fee. They serve breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, snacks, coffee and cold beverages.

4. Tampa Theatre Tour

One of the oldest buildings in downtown Tampa is the Tampa Theatre. Since 1926, the Tampa Theatre has been one of America’s most elaborate movie palaces. Every week the theatre hosts 90 minute tours that include a demonstration of the “Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ.” Theatre members and children ages two through 12 can tour for $2 and all other guests are $5. The tour will take you from the balcony to backstage. The Tampa Theatres is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a Tampa City Landmark and you can learn about its history, art and even hear a few ghost tales about the place.

5. Datz Deli

You could just stop by Datz Deli for a really great meal, but instead, go outside of the box and stop by for a beer tasting, cheese tasting, wine flight or a cooking lesson. The restaurant often hosts these types of events. Check the site for details.
