Guide Review – Tryst Gastro Lounge
If you haven't heard of Tryst Gastro Lounge yet, its high time you check it out! Located across the street from Vinoy Park and just minutes from all the downtown hot spots, Tryst will entice you, tickle your taste buds and make you want to bring your friends over and over again.
Outdoors you will find patio furniture with wood and metallic trim with neutral tones. Its a comfy spot complete with heaters during the cold nights. Inside is where the pretty stuff sits and hangs. Oversized booths with a European feel against black and white wallpaper that almost doesn't seem to match but somehow works in the room. The tables and chairs are black with black linens. The wall of the bar is coated in a rust colored metallic tile that makes the bar look exceptionally dark inside and above the bar are dozens of single bulb hanging lamps. The place looks posh, rich and fabulous.
The bar has a few televisions but the main focus is that exquisite metallic tile and the counter top that is covered with every liquor you could think of. Behind the bar are large windowed refrigerators packed to the brim with the more than 100 bottled beer choices, the white wines and chilled bubbly.
Check out their facebook page at for specials and deals. Friday and Saturday are the busiest nights of the week. Monday through Friday the bar is opened from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 5 pm. to 3 a.m. for dinner. Late night menu is available from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and the kitchen closes at 2 a.m. nightly. Smoking is only permitted outside.
Jazz! All jazz pretty much all the time is what you will hear at Tryst. The only difference in the weekend nights is the jazz goes from a slow paced lounge vibe to a little bit of a faster tempo but whether the music is speeding up or slowing down, somehow Tryst never loses its chill feel.
In terms of how to dress, Tryst is a classier place. Stick with business casual, fancy shirts and shoes, even nice dresses. If you are wearing a hat or shorts, hang out in the outdoor lounge. Indoors you've got to dress a little nicer.
There are 20 beers on tap, more than 100 bottled beers and a large variety of wines and cocktails to choose from. If you can't find something you want to drink here, you simply aren't looking hard enough.
The bottled beers range in price from $4.50 to $22 a bottle and drafts range from $5 to $8 a glass. Cocktails will cost you about $10 a piece. More expensive than the drinks are the menu items. Just a bowl of soup will run you $8. The Yellowfin Tuna is $16 as is the artisan cheese platter. The drunken mussels and clams platter is $12 and the Filet Mignon Brochettes are $13. However, the entree fees are about what you would expect to pay for a meal at most higher class eateries. Just don't expect to leave the place for less than $50 for date night.
