Sea Sea Riders Review

By , About.com Guide

The Bottom Line

From the day it opened, Sea Sea Riders has served meals with a homemade touch. The restaurant opened in 1988 and proprietors Artie and Sylvia Tzekas took over the restaurant in 1990. Since then it has become a favorite of Dunedin locals and out of town guests.

Pros

  • Plenty of parking
  • Full bar with a pretty decent wine selection
  • Everything is made fresh to order

Cons

  • Out of the way in a small town that may be difficult for out of towners to find
  • Not for late night diners. This place closes up shop at 9p.m.

Guide Review – Sea Sea Riders

Sea Sea Riders is a home that has been converted into a restaurant with decor is very warm and inviting. The booths are dark wood and each cushioned bench has a pillow on it for added comfort. sure, there are signs for beer and other promotional stuff hanging around but its not over done its obvious it is a seafood restaurant from all of the fish decor. There are big fish paintings, pictures and even fake fish hanging on the wall. the tables are lined with a metal that looks like copper and the lights that hang over them are dimly lit and have flowers delicately featured on them.

Before you order a single food item, order the sangria. It's among some of the tastiest I have ever tried. One thing that fascinated me about it was that the fruit was sprinkled with cinnamon giving it an added oomph and each sip aroused my senses as I smelled the cinnamon again each time. Yum!

Be sure to check the white board as you are walking in. It is loaded with awesome information about specials for drinks, appetizers and entrees. The most impressive thing about the specials is that the chef pairs things together that you would never think of. The day I dined at Sea Sea Riders the chef created a Bruleed Fresh Turkish Fig platter with avocado and caramobola with a balsamic reduction. As I sat putting my "fruit and veggie pizza" together on warm pita I remembered how much I don't like avocado or feta but somehow the blend of these items together was so perfect and delicious that it was hard to stop eating it and save room for more food.

Another appetizer I highly recommend is the Mahi Mahi bites. The delicious bites are dipped in batter, fried and then covered in tropical hot sauce served with blue cheese dip for $7.75. It’s like boneless buffalo wings in fish form.

For your entree, consider the shrimp and grits. This meal combines Anson mills grits, Manchego cheese, sweet and spicy bacon, scallions and BBQ gastrique for $16.95. The shrimp and grits is a large portion that tastes like the kind of home grown country cooking mom might have made.
