Step back in time at the 2008 Bay Area Renaissance Festival:

The Bay Area Renaissance Festival dates back to 1979 and was originally located in Largo. Construction of the new library forced its relocation to grounds adjacent to Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry.

Spread out over seven weekends, annually the festival attracts more than 125,000 visitors. Entertainment is presented on seven stages and throughout the 15-acre village. With a Royal Court, peasants, jugglers, knights, fairies, dancers and ventriloquists, the festival boasts more than 300 entertainers, re-enactors and performers.

Among the most popular events are Full Contact Jousting, Human Combat Chess, Royal High Tea, Feast of Fantasy, Renaissance Smoker and the Washing Well Wenches.

In addition to entertainment, the festival features artisans displaying and selling glassware, crafted leather, jewelry and period clothing. Food and beverage options include fresh baked goods, smoked turkey legs and premium ales.

The 2008 Bay Area Renaissance Festival has designated the following themed weekends:

March 15 & 16 – Shamrocks and Kilts

March 22 & 23 – Wonders of the World

March 28, 29 & 30 – Italian Carnival

April 5 & 6 – Buccaneer Beer Fest
