The North Beaches of Tampa Bay

By

The four beaches that make up the north beaches of Tampa Bay include Clearwater Beach, Sand Key Park, Indian Rocks Beach and Tiki Gardens-Indian Shores Beach. Here's everything you need to know about these four beaches.

Clearwater Beach
Clearwater Beach is located west on U.S. Hwy 60 in Clearwater. Facilities include beach showers, restrooms, concessions, cabanas, umbrella rentals and metered parking. Beach guards are only on duty from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Alcohol is not permitted on any of the public beaches, however there are restaurants and bars on the beach where alcohol can be consumed.

It should be noted that there is a safe swim zone that extends out 300 feet west of the high water line and is clearly marked by buoys or pilings. In this area boaters and jet skiers are not permitted.

Parking anywhere at the beach is only available for a fee. Fees range from $1.50 to $2 per hour and vary based on the day, month and area you are parking at. Most parking lots have a pay and display system where you pay at a station and then display your ticket in your dashboard. Others have metered spaces. Keeping quarters, credit cards and cash in your car for parking is a good idea.

Sand Key Park
The access point for Sand Key Park is located at 1060 Gulf Blvd. In Clearwater. Parking at Sand Key has a daily fee of $5 and is payable by an auto pay station located on site.

This site is part park and part beach and swimming is permitted here. Facilities and amenities include concession, boardwalk, nature trail, outdoor showers, two bath houses with separate changing stalls and restrooms, a dog park, playground equipment, shelters that can be rented online and grills.

Umbrellas, cabanas, kayaks and bicycles can be rented on site. Lifeguards are only on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from March to September. There are no boat or jet ski launch facilities or rentals available at this park.

Indian Rocks Beach
Indian Rocks Beach is home to seven parks including a leash free dog park. Amenities include playground equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field and more. On 1st street you will find a boardwalk, boat ramp access at 15th Avenue, gulf beach access and a nature preserve.

For GPS and mapping purposes, Indian Rocks Beach is located at 1700 Gulf Blvd, Indian Rocks Beach, according to the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce.

Several annual events such as the February Winterfest, October Florida Coast Cleanup, December holiday tree lighting and many more happen throughout the year at Indian Rocks Beach. There is also a historical museum as well as an art center on site.

Tiki Gardens-Indian Shores Beach
The access point for the Indian Shores Beach is located at 19601 Gulf Blvd., Indian Shores, 34635. Amenities here include restrooms, water fountain and beach showers. There is also walkway to the beach located at 196th Avenue.
