The Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF), March 19-24, has announced its list of scheduled films for the annual event celebrating talented films and filmmakers.
The line-up is one of the strongest to date including world premiere feature films, as well as inspiring documentaries and special showcases.
"We are calling this our ‘lucky seven’ year and we’re excited about all of the films, education panels and talent who will be at the Festival this year,” says Monica Varner, executive director for GIFF. "I've been with GIFF since the very first festival and to watch this event grow over the years has been amazing. We're thrilled to be celebrating seven years!"
After several months of planning, attending film festivals and conducting screenings, GIFF will bring a stimulating six days of art and culture to the Tampa Bay beginning with the exciting, red carpet opening night festivities sponsored by Merrill Lynch. The opening night film will be the world premiere of Empire State, a dramatic feature produced by Randall Emmett (Florida native and winner of the GIFF 2013 Florida Film Producer award) with Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth, Emma Roberts, Jerry Ferrara, Tara Holt and more.
A partial list of additional feature films for this year includes:
Disconnect: Directed by Henry Alex Rubin, featuring Jason Bateman and Paula Patton, this dramatic film about today’s wired world will be in theaters in April, but GIFF attendees can see it early.
Ginger & Rosa: Set in 1960s London, this film features Annette Bening and Elle Fanning, and is directed/written by Sally Potter.
GLOW: Glorious Ladies of Wrestling: This Florida premiere will be released to the public on March 26, 2013, but you can see it first at GIFF.
Hotel Noir: Premiered at Cannes 2012 and named as a “Top 25 Films at Cannes” by the Hollywood Reporter. Features Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Connolly and more.
The Iceman: Featuring James Franco, Robert Davi and Chris Evans, this film is based on the true story of contract killer and family man, Richard Kuklinkski.
Louder Than Love: The Grand Ballroom Story: A film about Detroit’s rock-n-roll scene during the 60s, and entrant for GIFF’s documentary competition.
The Long Ride Home: Directed by Thomas Lee Wright (New Jack City), GIFF has the Florida premiere of this film.
Meth Head: Florida premiere film featuring Lukas Haas (Inception), Necar Zadegan (24, Unthinkable), and more, is directed by Jane Clark.
Olympus Has Fallen: Making its Florida premiere, this action/thriller is directed by Antoine Fuqua and features Gerard Butler, Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, and Morgan Freeman.
Pharmboy: This world premiere film was shot in Pasco County, Florida.
Silent Majority: World premiere film directed by Leslie Glass, with scenes set in and around Tampa and Sarasota.
Also, the largest film ever made in Tampa Bay, The Punisher, will be featured and actor, Thomas Jane will be in attendance.

Additional films will be announced at the press conference on Tuesday, March 5 at 11 a.m. The press conference will be held at the Cinebistro in Hyde Park (1609 W. Swann Ave., Tampa, FL 33606).
