The Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF), presented by Digital Domain Institute (a subsidiary of leading digital production company, Digital Domain Media Group), has announced its list of scheduled films for the sixth annual event held March 29 through April, 1, 2012.
Attendees at this year’s event will have an opportunity to choose from more than 120 movies that will be seen in a variety of Tampa locations, including: Tampa Theatre, Cinebistro in Hyde Park Village and Muvico Ybor.
Films range from drama and horror features to a selection of shorts, and the line-up also includes the world premiere of Alive Again, which features a Tampa resident, Joel Tavera.
“This year’s selection gives the Tampa Bay Community a first look at some of the most sought after independent films before they are released,” says Joe Restaino, board president of GIFF. “We have recruited and screened films from all of the top film festivals and are excited more filmmakers and talent will be present at GIFF this year to represent their films.”
The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best
This comedy features actors, Andrew McCarthy, Arielle Kebbel (2010 GIFF Rising Star award winner), Wilmer Valderrama, Ryan O’Nan (this year’s Rising Star Award recipient) and a cast of others in a film about a singer/songwriter who goes on the road with a music revolutionary. Director: Ryan O’Nan.
Cabin in the Woods
A horror/thriller about five friends who take a trip to a remote cabin in the woods and as the movie poster insinuates: “you think you know the story.” Director: Drew Goddard. Cast: Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Chris Hemsworth and Brian White. http://discoverthecabininthewoods.com/
Juan De Los Muertos

Nice Guys Finish Last
A short comedy/thriller film about “when a guy is so nice you wanna kill him.” Director: Kimberly McCullough. Cast: Danielle Harris, Micah Cohen and Michael Trotter.
A short drama/romance, featuring Michael Roark and Lili Mirojnick, that’s about a woman who wants what other women have, and a man who steals it for her. Director: Ricky Rose. Cast: Yoonsuh Burnsed, Abigail Davis and Susan Gallagher.
Save the Date
Featured in the Sundance Film Festival, two incredibly different sisters are the center of attention in this movie featuring Lizzy Caplan, Martin Star and Alison Brie. Director: Michael Mohan.
Searching for Sunny
Directed by Andrew Disney, this comedy/mystery is about reunited friends who become chief suspects in a murder that resembles a play they performed in high school. Cast: Jason Dohring, Minka Kelly and Masi Oka. http://www.searchingforsonny.com/
Theresa Sareo: Alive Again
Documentary and inspirational true story of Theresa Sareo, a professional singer/songwriter whose life was changed after an impaired driver caused the amputation of her entire right leg. The inspirational film chronicles Sareo’s emotional and physical rehabilitation, along with her unexpected calling to support trauma survivors and wounded military around the world.
