A dedication ceremony celebrating the newly renovated Palm Harbor Library as well as a permanent outdoor public art installation will be Saturday, Jan. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
New Orleans sculptor Michael Cain created a series of totem and relief sculptures for the front and the façade of the library. The series, titled Beyond the Blue, is based on the artist’s vision of the library as a gathering place of knowledge and community storytelling. The sculptures represent a quest for knowledge through colorful symbols and images.
The installation includes three totem pole structures designed to convey the seeds of knowledge, the spirit of community connection and the power of the sea as a symbolic repository of knowledge. Set in front of the totems in an open book mounted on a reading stand. The book reads:
Knowledge is the seed of our own creativity, the foundation that strengthens our community and the landmark that guides our course of action.
The Palm Harbor Library is at 2330 Nebraska Ave. Call 727-784-3332.
