Budd, McGee To Star In American Stage’s ‘Tuna Christmas’

Wednesday November 12, 2008

American Stage Theatre Company will continue its historic 30th anniversary season on Friday, Nov. 14, with the opening of the hilarious holiday comedy A Tuna Christmas on the main stage, 211 Third St. S., St. Petersburg.

A Tuna Christmas will run through Dec. 28. Performances are Wednesday and Thursday, 7:30 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m. Matinees are Saturday and Sunday, 3 p.m.

Previews will be Nov. 12 and 13. “Pay What You Can” nights will be Nov. 28 and Dec. 10, 17 and 24. Sign Language Interpreter Performances will be Nov. 15, 3 p.m.; Nov. 21, 8 p.m.; Nov. 22, 3 p.m.; Dec. 6, 8 p.m.; Dec. 12, 8 p.m.; and Dec. 13, 3 p.m.

Starring in A Tuna Christmas are the two actors who brought American Stage’s hit production The Big Bang to life, Matthew McGee and Candler Budd.

The comedy is the must-see sequel to Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams’ Greater Tuna. In the third smallest town in Texas, radio station personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including the hot competition in the annual lawn display contest, Joe Bob Lipsey's doomed production of A Christmas Carol and the holiday activities of 20 other zany citizens of this quirky western town. With quick-change artistry and quicksilver dialogue, two consummate actors portray over two dozen characters, and create an irreverent Christmas comedy.

Tickets prices range from $24 to $39 depending on the date and time of performance. Students’ Rush tickets are $10, 30 minutes prior to curtain.

Call 727-823-7529.
