USF St. Petersburg Breaks Ground on Science/Tech Building
A small army of campus and community leaders recently broke ground on the Science and Technology Building at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus.
Scheduled to open in August 2009, the new building will add about 35,000 square feet of classrooms, teaching labs and research labs to the campus and is designed to meet the strict standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. It is, in fact, the first building in the USF system to register with LEED, an organization which certifies environmentally responsible buildings.
In a press release issued by USF St. Petersburg, regional chancellor Karen A. White said the environmental stewardship in the construction model “exemplifies a philosophy and value” that is held in high regard on the campus.
This project continues an extended investment in campus expansion which included the construction of Residence Hall One, the campus’ first residential house for students; a new parking facility; and Barnes & Noble USF St. Petersburg, a bookstore serving both the university as well as the adjacent community.
